Just lost my comment, so I'll type faster this time ;-)
Sorry to hear about yr hubby's heart attack, but glad there was no serious damage...
I'm a big fan of Peter D's Hyperliipid blog (pretty technical) as well as Dr Lagakos' "Poor, Misunderstood Calorie"... The echo-cardiogram results show absolutely NO DAMAGE was done to his heart! (Praise the Lord) however if he still would have been 338 lbs I seriously doubt that would be the case.

I do follow the Wheat Belly page on FB and a few others ... I'm still very committed to being Total Grain and Added Sugar Free!

We have now had two visits with the nutritionist that our Dr has set up. And they are totally convinced that a LOW FAT PLANT BASED DIET is the only way. Not going to happen! Thank you for the links, we were just discussing last night that we thought we would have to go out side of our medical plan to get any REAL help and guidance.

Rethahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15603170718370521837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8125243129712103085.post-50082081314436472832015-02-20T12:10:30.175-08:002015-02-20T12:10:30.175-08:00HI Retha - I found you from Gwen's blog. I am...HI Retha - I found you from Gwen's blog. I am so sorry this happened to your husband and you, how scary! But I have to think Gwen's right - think how much worse it might have been?

And I love your photo showing the TERRIBLE meal they provide, alongside their TERRIBLE dietary advice! Do you follow the Wheat Belly page on Facebook? Because Dr Davis (the cardiologist that wrote the Wheat Belly books) is ALWAYS posting about the terrible dietary advice the AHA and the rest of the medical establishment gives. It is their advice that can kill you. Easy to say, I know, and harder to believe when your own husband just had a heart attack.

Have you considered consulting a nutritionist or dietician for dietary advice in light of what has happened? I would. You cannot trust the medical establishment, they simply do NOT understand nutrition, it's not their training. I've found these two sites for people I may use for my own nutritional counseling in the future and wonder if either of them might be of help to you and your husband:
http://www.lowcarbdietitian.com/
http://www.tuitnutrition.com/
Good luck to you and your husband! This must be such a scary and stressful time. Sending you good thoughts and hopes for continued improvements.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10115761289088772657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8125243129712103085.post-72571614113609326782015-02-16T16:48:26.722-08:002015-02-16T16:48:26.722-08:00Sue ... They are...Pardon my language, but UN FUCKING REAL.

They are still ALL smoking the Ansel Keys dope. Seriously.

Going forward, just tell them that your husband is allergic to gluten. That will shut up most of their bitching. I do agree much less bacon. Re cooking with oil, if it's coconut or extra virgin olive oil and limited amounts...keep on with that.

So sorry about all of this. There is so much bad information out there. :(

Get your hubby walking, too, if he doesn't already.

Look at it this way. No major damage to his heart and he SURVIVED. Those are huge positives. Had you not changed your diets and not lost all that weight, he likely could've died or needed bypass surgery.

Medicine needs to fucking CHANGE. I have some posts about cardiologists seeing the light....need to find them, print them, and send or present to every damned naysayer. Here's a GREAT one:

http://thesunnycoconut.com/2013/04/one-more-cardiologist-who-jumped-on-the-bandwagon-last-year.html

:: hugs ::Gwenhttp://thesunnycoconut.com/noreply@blogger.com
